About

Formed in 2009 as a result of campus-wide IT integration, the Office of Information Technology at the University of California, Irvine is a large and complex organization with over 340 staff and 60 student employees distributed across 12 locations around campus. For nearly a decade, OIT consisted of a cluster of different groups and departments from every corner of UCI with no defined vision or shared value system. Changes in leadership presented an opportunity to examine, redefine, and transform this culture.

The appointment of an inaugural Vice Chancellor of Information, Technology, and Data in 2019 has further elevated the role of the IT department on campus. For the first time in the University’s history, IT has a seat in the Chancellor’s cabinet. This historic development has only reaffirmed our belief that unifying and aligning our culture is more important now than ever.

 Why a Culture Initiative?

  • A strong culture exists as a differentiator for a campus technology organization
  • A robust culture offers an opportunity to present an IT organization as a strategic partner rather than a tool provider
  • A clear culture ensures the brand of IT organization and the university are aligned
